The personal statement is a short reflective essay that describes the perfection of candidates for which they are applying for university admission. It is the crucial part for university application. Writing an effective personal statement is complicated. It is that skills which are developed by writing and make an excellent personal statement. Make a draft without character counter is a good sense. But when I start writing, I thought it is a great idea to write with character counters, so I set my limit over 4,000 characters. But it was the first mistake. When I was half of my story, I started panicking because the character counter showed 3,500 limits. So, I turned off the character counter and kept continue to write. At the end of my story, I had 7,000 characters instead of 4,000 words, but I wrote everything in my story. So, I deleted some words and made it concise and keeping it under 4,000 characters limit.

Do not make hurry or rush in writing. An outstanding personal statement will not get ready within few hours not even in a couple of days. It took more time to complete or maybe a month. Sometimes this personal statement took a long break for few days and then coming back to resume this statement.

Always use perfect words and great expressions in the personal statement. It sounds more elegant and professional. For example, if you use ‘presume’ instead of ‘think’ or ‘accomplish’ rather than ‘do’. It looks more useful and fancy. For any international applicant, it is not even challenging. There are some valuable and efficient translation programs with synonyms on the internet that could be very helpful. Several people use Google Translate software and can translate the words in different languages of they could find more synonyms of same words. But it should be performed very carefully. Using too many expressions and fancy words could make the statement over and difficult to read.

In a personal statement of 4,000 characters, must try to sell yourself for the university. A perfect proposer contains a great deal of showing expressions, experience, knowledge and plans. Do not use any negative thoughts and effort in the personal statement. For example, I am not good in geography, but I think it is understandable as I hate this subject.

Always start the sentence with something funny, surprise or interesting facts to create the excellent impression. But don’t try to embrace something funny in your brain; this is useless or inappropriate. The perfect sentence opening will hit in a random moment when you gave too many hours on your statement. Do not read or copy to any other personal statement before making your draft. It will provide a fake or false idea. It is worthless to follow someone’s beliefs and also work on rules and patterns. Always write with your thoughts, skills and work.

Be honest with your personal statement. Do not write any overstatement or over thoughts. Do not write that you are fluent in Chinese or you know two or three words in Chinese. Also, do not write that you are a good decision maker or you have some tricks such as carrying five bottles in one hand etc. If you are good and honest, then you do not need to create any false image. Otherwise, the truth will always come out sooner or later in reality.
